Ohrid, Macedonia - Call For Papers

Call for Papers
Participants are encouraged to prepare a paper of approximately 25 pages in English discussing the theme from their country’s unique perspective.  Papers should describe and analyze the responses adopted by a country’s policing system to the new challenges, present original information and data, and summarize the lessons learned so far by each police service in this field. Interested individuals must submit an abstract of their papers by May 7.  Final papers of accepted proposals are due by May 15, 2009. For details, please contact Dr. Cliff Roberson at roberson37@msn.com.

Papers are invited addressing:

  • The role of the private sector in enhancing policing, economic development and social change
  • Ethical and legal issues in public police/private sector partnerships
  • Social capital and policing
  • Economic development and policing
  • Democratic policing and establishing legitimacy
  • Case studies in successful partnerships between the public police and the private sector
  • Models of policing in support of economic development and social change

Panels
Roundtable and panel proposals are welcome.  They must deal directly with at least a few of the issues related above.  Such proposals should comprise a balance of researchers and practitioners, pay attention to geographic distribution, and theory and practice.

For additional information, please contact IPES President and Editor-in-Chief, PPR, Dr. Dilip K. Das at dilipdas@ipes.info or Cliff Roberson, Program Chair at roberson37@msn.com.

Role of Participants
Every paper presented is expected to be directly focused on the theme, “Policing, the Private Sector, Economic Development and Social Change”. While papers not so focused may be accepted and presented in non-plenary sessions, the focused papers will be featured in plenary sessions. Directly relevant papers are considered for the Special Issue of the journal, and the post-conference book, the other papers, if analytically sound and theoretically viable, will be considered for general issues of the journal. Thus, all papers must be carefully written for publication in mind.

However, participants are not required to present papers to participate. They can serve as “Discussion Participants”, i.e. take part in discussions, interact with participants and help in facilitating the dialogue among them.
