The International Police Executive Symposium (IPES) brings police researchers and practitioners together to facilitate cross-cultural, international and interdisciplinary exchanges for the enrichment of the policing profession. It encourages discussions and writing on challenging topics of contemporary importance through an array of initiatives including conferences and publications.

IPES 16th Annual Meeting will be held in OHRID, MACEDONIA from JUNE 9 - JUNE 14, 2009
Founded in 1994 by Dilip K. Das, Ph.D., the IPES is a registered Not-For-Profit educational corporation. It is funded by the benefaction of institutional supporters and sponsors that host IPES events around the world.
Dr. Das has over 40 years of experience in police practice, research, writing and education. He is currently the head of Criminal Justice at Grambling State University, Grambling, Louisiana and a human rights consultant to the United Nations. Dr. Das serves as president of the IPES and manages the affairs of the organization in cooperation with an appointed group of police practitioners, academia members, and individuals from around the world.
The International Police Executive Symposium’s major annual initiative is a four-day meeting on specific issues relevant to the policing profession. Past meeting themes have covered a broad range of topics from police education to corruption. Meetings are organized by the IPES in conjunction with sponsoring organizations in a host country. To date, meetings have been held throughout North America, Europe, Middle East and Asia. The immediate past meeting was hosted by The Cincinnati Police and Ohio Association of Chiefs of Police in Cincinnati, Ohio, USA. The upcoming 2009 meeting will be held in Ohrid, Macedonia and hosted by the Ministry of Interior for the Republic of Macedonia.
The IPES’ annual meetings bring together ministers of interior and justice, police commissioners and chiefs, members of the academia representing world-renowned institutions and many more of Criminal Justice elite from over 60 countries throughout the world. The meeting facilitates interaction, and the exchange of ideas and opinions on all aspects of policing. The agenda is structured to encourage dialogue in both formal and informal settings.
Meeting participants are requested to present a paper discussing the meeting’s theme from their country’s perspective. Compilations of selected papers from each meeting have been published or are in stages of publication preparation.
IPES advocates, promotes and propagates that POLICING is one of the most basic and essential avenues for improving the quality of life in all nations, rich and poor; modern and traditional; large and small as well as peaceful and strife-ridden.
IPES actively works to drive home to all its office bearers, supporters and admirers that, in order to reach its full potential as an instrument of service to humanity, POLICING must be fully and enthusiastically open to:
(1) Collaboration between research and practice
(2) Global exchanges among the police of all nations in the world
(3) Universal dissemination and sharing of best practices
(4) Generating thinking police leaders and followers, reflecting and writing
on the issues challenging to the profession
Through its Annual Meetings, Hosts, Institutional Supporters, and Publications,
IPES reaffirms that POLICING is a moral profession with unflinching adherence
to the rule of law and human rights as the embodiment of humane values.
