Call for Papers
Participants are encouraged to prepare a paper of approximately 25 pages in English discussing the theme from their country’s unique perspective. Papers should describe and analyze the responses adopted by a country’s policing system to the new challenges, present original information and data, and summarize the lessons learned so far by each police service in this field. Interested individuals must submit an abstract of their proposed paper by March 15, 2009. Final papers of accepted proposals are due by May 1st, 2009. For details, please contact Dr. Cliff Roberson at roberson37@msn.com.
Papers are invited addressing:
- The role of the private sector in enhancing policing, economic development and social change
- Ethical and legal issues in public police/private sector partnerships
- Social capital and policing
- Economic development and policing
- Democratic policing and establishing legitimacy
- Case studies in successful partnerships between the public police and the private sector
- Models of policing in support of economic development and social change
Panels
Roundtable and panel proposals are welcome. They must deal directly with at least a few of the issues related above. Such proposals should comprise a balance of researchers and practitioners, pay attention to geographic distribution, and theory and practice.
For additional information, please contact IPES President and Editor-in-Chief, PPR, Dr. Dilip K. Das at dilipdas@ipes.info or Cliff Roberson, Program Chair at roberson37@msn.com.
Role of Participants
Every paper presented is expected to be directly focused on the theme, “Policing, the Private Sector, Economic Development and Social Change”. While papers not so focused may be accepted and presented in non-plenary sessions, the focused papers will be featured in plenary sessions. Directly relevant papers are considered for the Special Issue of the journal, and the post-conference book, the other papers, if analytically sound and theoretically viable, will be considered for general issues of the journal. Thus, all papers must be carefully written for publication in mind.
However, participants are not required to present papers to participate. They can serve as “Discussion Participants”, i.e. take part in discussions, interact with participants and help in facilitating the dialogue among them.
SPONSORSHIP: Book a Lunch or a Dinner to Promote Yourself
Participants may note that by paying $3000.00 (three thousand dollars) one can book a dinner or a lunch period to talk about their organization, the agency, the country and their products and services, their achievements, plans, perspectives and about their culture as well as society before a truly international audience consisting of 55 countries or more. The evening or the afternoon will be called by their name. Further, they will be given a full-page display in the conference brochure, and they can distribute promotional materials through the registration bags. This is a unique chance to tell a global audience who you are, what you can offer to the world, and what the world can learn from you. In brief, one gets access to a global audience to tell anything that one thinks it is necessary to share with the world.
Meeting Logistics
Meals, accommodations, internal transportation, sightseeing tours and exclusive cultural events will be provided gratis to all registered participants and registered guests from June 9th to breakfast on June 14th, 2009.
